I am a fourth-year doctoral candidate and certified speech-language pathologist studying under the supervision of Dr. Hugh Catts. My research interests include language and literacy disorders in culturally and linguistically diverse students. I am interested in developing better literacy assessment and intervention measures for multilingual students.

I have helped to develop our English and Spanish literacy screeners in collaboration with Learning Ally, under the supervision of Dr. Hugh Catts. Our screeners focus on the early identification of kindergarten students with language and reading impairments.

TALES 2.0
Training Assistants in Language Elicitation Strategies (TALES) under the supervision of Dr. Kelly Farquarson and Dr. Lindsay Dennis. This study involves training paraeducators and SLPAs on print referencing strategies during shared reading using a practice-based coaching model, where I serve as a coach.
Librarian Professional Development
Professional development training is in collaboration with FCRR’s The Village under the supervision of Dr. Lakeisha Johnson. I helped to create and lead professional development training for librarians within Leon County Public Libraries. For more information on FCRR visit:
Bilingual Kindergarteners’ Language and Literacy Skills: Predicting End-of-Year English Word Reading
As a part of the Reach Every Reader project, I have led the development of a Spanish language and literacy screener. This screener is the core of my dissertation research which seeks to answer whether mid-year Spanish language and literacy performance on our screener is predictive of end-of-year English word reading skills. My dissertation will address three questions:
To what extent do mid-year Spanish and English language and literacy measures predict end-of-year English word reading skills?
What combination of measures best predicts end-of-year English word reading skills?
Does perceived comfort in English moderate the relation between mid-year Spanish and English language and literacy measures and end-of-year English word reading?
